Farm Show’s PA Marketplace Offers Unique Opportunities to Local Companies

Harrisburg – From mustard and pretzels to cheese and pickles, Farm Show visitors can work their way through busy aisles to sample a taste of Pennsylvania at the 2012 Pennsylvania Farm Show.
Nearly 50 PA Preferred™ vendors are sampling and selling their products in the show’s PA Marketplace, located in the Main Hall.

PA Preferred™ is the official branding program of agricultural commodities produced in Pennsylvania, and identifies agricultural products grown and processed here to consumers and major retail, wholesale and distribution chains interested in supporting local farmers and businesses.

Miller’s Mustard, a family-owned, PA Preferred™ company, has exhibited in the marketplace for six years. They display a variety of tasty mustards, including the official mustard for the Harrisburg Senators baseball team. Their products are available at GIANT Food Stores – an honor they attribute to their exposure at the Farm Show and other vendor events.

Winning First Place Condiment at the International Scovie Awards contest was one of the great highlights of their increasing success since the creation of the company.
“Every year we have participated in the Farm Show, our sales have significantly exceeded the previous year’s sales,” said Don Miller, creator of the original mustard recipe. “With this increase in popularity and our great recipe, we have been able to gain access to major markets.”

Another PA Preferred™ company, Hammond’s Hand-Made Pretzels, started during the Great Depression and has continued with 81 years of family traditions. Hammond’s offers a variety of pretzel products in their outlet store and bakery location in Lancaster.

“One-hundred percent of our product is produced here, including flour that is milled in Lancaster County,” said Brian Nicklaus, who was sampling pretzels to the Farm Show crowds.
Hammond’s has been involved in PA Preferred™ since its beginning and feels that the program, along with meeting potential customers at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, has largely contributed to their success.
Nicklaus said, “Many walk by the booth, commenting to their friends about these amazing pretzels that they just tasted. We get more customers coming into the outlet location because they tasted our pretzels at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and wanted more.”

The LeRaysville Cheese Factory is a PA Preferred™ member, with owners Tiffany and Skeet Repsher having owned the company for only two-and-a-half years. The Repshers offer a variety of cheeses and cheese curds that they display at a variety of events like the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
Tiffany Repsher explained that the PA Preferred™ program has been integral to their success. “PA Preferred™ provides us very useful resources, great membership discounts and helpful consultations for the business.”
