JUNIOR SHEPHERDS DISPLAY LAMB SHOWING CHOPS, SHOW FEATURES SHEEP OF ALL COLORS
1/15/2011

Harrisburg - Fifty 4-H and FFA members exhibited 123 sheep at the Junior Sheep Show at the 2011 Pennsylvania Farm Show, Jan. 15, 2011.

Judge Stacy Taylor evaluated the entries, which ranged from more typical breeds like Dorsets and Suffolks to diminutive Cheviots and Jacob's sheep.

Jacob's sheep are unlike typical American breeds, as they are an "heirloom" or "unimproved" breed, meaning they have largely survived with little to no human selection. They feature a black and white spotted coat, long wool and two to six horns. Many Farm Show spectators understandably mistook Jacob's sheep for goats, as the appearances are similar and they share the tendency to jump more than the improved breeds present at the show.

Exhibitors were also evaluated on their showmanship abilities, and several were proclaimed Master Showmen.
