Harrisburg – In his final show as a junior exhibitor, Ryan Witt, from Champion, Fayette County, was awarded Grand Champion Market Lamb honors at the 2011 Pennsylvania Farm Show on Sunday, Jan. 9.

Witt first was awarded Champion Crossbred Heavyweight, then Champion Crossbred to lead up to his big finale. With a humble handshake he thanked the judge for the honors.

Witt topped nearly 250 market lamb entries, of which 124 will be sold to market at the Junior Livestock Sale on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb was exhibited by Delaney Carey, Mountoursville, Lycoming County. Carey received Reserve Grand Champion honors in 2010, and has exhibited at the Pennsylvania Farm Show for many years.

Judge Kyle Culp from Columbus, Ohio, was enthusiastic about his first trip to the Pennsylvania Farm Show, saying he was pleased with the quality of the animals and event.

Agriculture Secretary Russell C. Redding awarded the top winners with champion banners, thanking exhibitors for being a “showcase” of Pennsylvania agriculture and parents, families, leaders and Farm Show staff for their commitment.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation, featuring nearly 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 290 commercial exhibitors. The show runs Jan. 8-15 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free and parking is $10.
