Harrisburg – Pennsylvania Farm Show exhibitors and enthusiasts are invited to taste some of the state’s finest foods at the PA Preferred Reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center.
The reception, which will kick-off the 94th Pennsylvania Farm Show, will have stations in the Expo Hall featuring tastings of Pennsylvania-produced food and beverage products.
“The Pennsylvania Farm Show is a one-of-a-kind event where we can proudly showcase the best our agricultural industry has to offer,” said acting Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding. “We welcome all Farm Show friends to attend the PA Preferred Reception and gain a new appreciation for the food products grown and prepared here in Pennsylvania.”
Food items will include beef, pork, lamb, chicken, trout, cheeses, mushrooms, rolls, sauces, toppings and desserts. Local beverages will include milk, sodas, craft beers and wines, among others.
The recipes are developed by the winning Pennsylvania Iron Chef team that consists of four of the state’s top hotel and restaurant chefs. The team members will support the Farm Show’s Boston Culinary caterers in the preparation.
Agricultural producers supplying food products also will be on hand to share their production and preparation practices with guests.
Eight Pennsylvania food companies will provide samples of beef and bologna, poultry products, dairy, eggs, fruit, vegetables and snack foods as part of the Farm Show’s display partnership between the Pennsylvania FFA and the Pennsylvania Food Processing Co.
“We look forward to starting the 2010 Pennsylvania Farm Show with this new reception to highlight our industry in a creative, exciting way,” said Redding.
Tickets for the reception are $25 and reservations are due to the Department of Agriculture at 2301 N. Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA, 17110, by Friday, Dec. 18. Invitations and response cards are available on the Farm Show Web site at www.farmshow.state.pa.us under “2010 Show.”
