HARRISBURG – Tractor enthusiasts will find a variety of events to match their interests during “Antique & Farm Family Fun Day” on Wednesday, Jan. 14 during the 2009 Pennsylvania Farm Show, which runs from Jan. 10-17 in Harrisburg.
“The Farm Show draws enthusiasts of every kind and each day of the show offers events and activities specific to different interests,” said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff. “‘Farm Family Fun Day’ is aimed toward those with a passion for antique trucks and tractors, in addition to tractor pulls for youth and adults alike.”
The following events take place in the Equine Arena:
• Antique Tractor & Truck Display – From 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., antique tractors and farm trucks will be on display on the arena floor. Owners and exhibitors will be on hand to discuss the machinery and will be operating “hit and miss” engine demonstrations. Old-fashioned feed and fertilizer bags will also be on display.
• Antique Tractor Pulls – A new event, the pulls will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. No diesel tractors will be accepted.

The following youth events will also take place in the Equine Arena:
• Children’s Big Wheel Races – Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. and the races start at 10:30 a.m. Geared toward children ages 4 – 9, Big Wheels will be painted in the likeness of different farm tractors and provided for the contestants’ use.
• Children’s Pedal Pulls – Sign-up begins at noon and the pulls begin at 12:30 p.m. The pulls are for children ages 6 - 12. Tractors will be provided and the event is sponsored by the Waterloo Boys Tractor Club of Kinzer, Lancaster County.
Visitors are invited to stay to watch the garden tractor pulls from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Equine Arena.
The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation, featuring nearly 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 270 commercial exhibitors. The eight-day show is Jan. 10-17, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free and parking is $8. For more information, visit www.farmshow.state.pa.us
