SMALL CHICKEN WINS BIG AWARD AT PA FARM SHOW POULTRY SHOW
Prized Poultry hails from Lebanon County, Tops Nearly 1,370 Entries
1/10/2009
HARRISBURG – Lebanon County’s Dylan Lape exhibited the best bird in the poultry show at the 2009 Pennsylvania Farm Show on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Though small in size, Dylan’s Blue Old English Game Bird topped the 698 Bantam entries in addition to 172 waterfowl entries, 465 large fowl entries, and 31 turkey entries to earn the Supreme Champion honor.

Dylan, 16, has shown poultry since he was two years old.  Grinning, he said he never expected his chicken go as far as it did in the competition.

The Reserve Supreme Champion was a Brown African Goose exhibited by Jack Tickle of Saltsburg, Pa., in Westmoreland County.

The excitement in the room was high as the three official judges, Paul Kroll from East Aurora, N.Y., Roland Romig from Sayre, Pa., and Tim Bowles of Lucasville, Ohio revealed the winners.  The judges commended the overall quality of poultry exhibited in the statewide competition.
