HARRISBURG – Located outside of Kutztown, Pa., in Berks County, Pinnacle Ridge Winery has been competing in the Farm Show Wine Competition for several years. Their traditional approach to winemaking earned them Best of Show and Best Hybrid honors during the Governor’s Cup Award ceremony, held Saturday, Jan. 10.
Their Curvee Chardonnay earned them the Best Sparkling Award. Additionally, they received a gold award for their 2007 Veritas, two silvers for their 2007 Pinot Noir and Naked Chardonnay, and two bronze for their 2007 Merlot and 2007 Late Harvest Vidal.
In the Best of Show Fruit division, two wineries tied – Heritage Wine Cellars of North East, Pa., Erie County with their 2007 Elderberry and Cherry Valley Vineyard of Saylorsburg, Pa., Monroe County with their Blueberry Spumante. Heritage also received a gold for their 2007 Peach Fuzz and three bronze for their 2007 Peach, 2008 Isabella, and 2008 Strawberry. Cherry Valley Vineyard also took home a silver with their Raspberry and three bronze with their Cayuga, Foch Barrell and Raspberry Spumante.
A total of 35 wineries submitted 237 wines for the competition. Many of these wineries will go on to compete in regional and national contests.

Best Vinifera: Shade Mountain 2006 Lemberger, Middleburg, Snyder Co.
Best American: Antler Ridge 2007 Red Vixen, Rome, Bradford Co.
Best Sparkling: Pinnacle Ridge NV Curvee Chardonnay, Kutztown, Berks Co.
Best Dessert: Antler Ridge 2007 Red Vixen, Rome, Bradford Co.
