HARRISBURG – Four teams of FFA students from throughout the commonwealth displayed a wealth of knowledge during the Pennsylvania State University Farm Safety and Health Quiz Bowl, held at the 2009 Pennsylvania Farm Show on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Mifflinburg Area FFA topped the Conococheague FFA, having a lead of 165 points when the 4th round ended. Coming in third was Midd West FFA, and Selinsgrove FFA took fourth. All FFA teams and coaches were presented with certificates and commemorative travel bags.
The quiz bowl is designed to motivate youth to increase their awareness and knowledge of agricultural safety and health issues. During the competition, students are asked a sampling of more than 1,000 questions. Categories include machinery, equipment and tools, occupational health, environmental hazards, pesticides and other chemicals, confined spaces, farm shops, special populations, and animals and livestock management.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation, featuring nearly 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 270 commercial exhibitors. The eight-day show is Jan. 10-17, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free and parking is $8.
